Director: Jae-young Kwak
Cast: Zhou Xun, Tong Dawei, Han-Liang Chung, Zhang Zilin
Genre: Comedy/Romance

Went to watch Meet Miss Anxiety 我的早更女友 special screening as one of the blogger!

Personally, I felt that the story was simple and classic on its own. Initially, the plot appear rather predictable which seems like a typical romance show. However, it was actually quite refreshing which added colours to it. Though a slow build up to its plot, it was nicely presented with a good flow.

Good to see certain humour injected which was quite funny though some turn out quite foreseeable. There was a twist towards the finale which reveal its hidden truth and that certainly bring this show to another level. Honestly, I was touched in certain scenes with the convincing acting capability presented.

A film that triggered some memories way back then as a secondary kid.

Media tasting: Sakura International Buffet

I was invited to a media tasting: Sakura International Buffet at Yio Chu Kang on Thursday evening! Before the food tasting started, there was a spectacular lion dance performance celebrating its new concept and ambience for this particular outlet.

The following below are some of the food served on a Dinner Buffet:

As you can see above, there are many variety of food for consumers to choose and select from. It now offers buffet aficionados a brand new dining concept. With its eight new as well as rejuvenated counters, it aims to bring gourmands on an around the world food journey. You get to experience the best of what Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Thailand, the US, France and Singapore have to offer - all in one place!

Personally, the below-mentioned dishes were my favourite as I thought it stand out more as compared to the rest.

Hiroshima Oyster Omelette -
A nicely presented dish which served fresh Japanese oysters.
Honestly, one of the better Oyster Omelette I have indulged.

Sashimi -
A fresh sliced sashimi with a nice presentation
though I did prefer a bigger slice for better texture.

Portuguese Bird Nest Egg Tart -
Crispy on its crust with a crumbly base and nourishing centre.
Though it tasted slightly sweet for me but it is definitely one of the better ones I have eaten.

Belgian Chocolate Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream with Chocolate Lava Cake -
It tasted pretty decent with a moist texture and flowing chocolate.
It blends well with the ice-cream gave a punch to this dessert.

Oh well, I think I did not manage to taste the Thai cuisine and some of the local ones that evening. I shall try it on my next visit.

As compared to the previous time I visited, this newly revamp outlet certainly improved in terms of food selections and the conceptual layout. With that, I think it will attract more customers to visit this place.

Great to see familiar faces (bloggers) there! Great to mingle and make new friends! Grateful for this opportunity to be invited to this media tasting. Thanks Brand Cellar team & Suki Group for the invitation! (;

Whiplash Movie Review

Andrew (Miles Teller), a promising 19-year-old drummer at a cutthroat Manhattan music conservatory, has little interest in being just a musician. Haunted by his father’s failed writing career and plagued with the fear that mediocrity just might be genetic, Andrew dreams of greatness. Determined not to follow in his father’s footsteps, he practices daily until his hands literally bleed. The pressure of success ratchets into high gear when he is picked to join the school band led by the infamous Terence Fletcher (J.K Simmons), a brutally savage music instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student’s potential. Under Fletcher’s ruthless direction, Andrew begins to pursue perfection at any cost—even his humanity.

Watched Whiplash. Personally, I felt that story was simple yet classic on its own. The show was well-crafted with a rather good flow. Initially, it appear quite predictable without much substance however, as the story continue, I realised there was more to it. I never expect to see such a twist coming along this direction which certainly make this show a intense one.

Honestly, I was rather traumatise by the band practice scenes where the instructor - Terence Fletcher being so strict to the group. He have high expectations on each individual that portray him pretty ruthless and one who could cause harm to any student. It seems that they are under-going some military training instead.

As a instructor, I do agree that there will not be progressive improvement with only nice words; you have to be wise and give honest views about your student. However, I thought that Fletcher method was ruthless to a certain extent.

An inspiring film telling individuals never to give up but to persevere on in any circumstances to pursue your dreams. With that little faith, seize every opportunity as that may create a platform for you to start with.

Visited La Marelle Café with Malay colleagues. Ordered the French Croissant which was reasonably tasty. The flaky croissant was freshly baked and nicely presented. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The sausages tasted quite good with the mayonnaise though its texture could have been better. Scrambled egg was rather fluffy and well-seasoned though it was slightly dry for me.

Taken 3 Movie Review

Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.

Watched Taken 3 with friends earlier at night. Personally, I enjoyed this film as a whole package. It was well-crafted with a rather good story flow. If you are expecting something similar to previous installment, this sequel may disappoint you as it portrays more on its suspense instead of its usual smart plot.

Though the twist of the story may appear rather predictable, it was well-presented with good intense moment. However, certain action scenes turned out rather blurry which could have been done better.

Personally, I enjoyed suspenseful film hence Taken and Taken 3 over Taken 2 for this instance. Nevertheless, a good movie series worth the watch!

The Guest Movie Review

A mysterious soldier befriends the family of a fallen comrade and quickly makes himself an indispensible part of their lives, but the secrets he’s hiding put them all in danger in The Guest, a nail-biting, retro-stylish thriller from director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die).

Arriving unannounced on the doorstep of the Peterson family, recently discharged soldier David (Dan Stevens) brings a final message of love from their recently deceased son, Caleb, with whom he served. Still grieving over Caleb’s tragic death in combat, the Petersons welcome David into their home and their lives. Humble, helpful and unfailingly polite, David turns out to be the perfect guest, filling the void left by Caleb.

Watched this film - The Guest online as it is not shown in Singapore. Decided to catch it as I enjoy watching action thriller shows as mentioned previously.

Personally, I felt that the show was pretty good! It was rather fast-paced with a good build up to its suspenseful plot. However, the initial story appear slightly slow though the flow was nicely presented. As the show continue on, it got intense with its well-crafted action and thriller scenes, which led me to ponder and focus watching on.

Kudos to Dan Stevens for his acting capability as He acted very well with his given role! A role where viewers will remember him for I guess.

Nice kick ass fighting, action pack and suspense injected to its entire plot. However, the finale ended quite abruptly without much substance else it could have been a better film.

Got this spaghetti laksa with tiger prawn from owl cafe. The gravy tasted rather flavourful yet not too spicy. It goes well with the spaghetti, bean curd and prawn. Decent portion for one to indulge this dish. The noodle texture was nicely done though the prawn was quite dry. A fusion food between both nyonya and western which give this dish a twist to your taste bud.

The Taking Of Tiger Mountain 《智取威虎山》special preview

Adapted from the famous Chinese novel "Tracks in the Snowy Forest" set during the civil war era of 1946, when ruthless bandits occupied Northeastern China and threatened the lives of civilians there. The most powerful bandit of all was Mountain Eagle (Tony LEUNG Ka-fai), with an impenetrable fortress up in Tiger Mountain and armed with strong artillery. Unit 203 of the Liberation Army, led by SHAO (LIN Gengxin), was crossing the Northeastern region when they encountered Eagle's men raiding a village. SHAO decided to stay and fight against Eagle. Headquarters sent a skilled investigator YANG (ZHANG Hanyu), who infiltrated Eagle's gang as an undercover. The duo was soon engaged in a battle of wits with the cold-blooded Eagle, deep inside the snowy forest.

Was invited as one of the bloggers to watch The Taking Of Tiger Mountain 《智取威虎山》special preview!

Personally, I felt that this film was pretty awesome! The story was well-crafted with a good build up and climax to its plot. Initially, it may appear quite draggy and dull. However, as the story continue on, it got more exciting on its war battle. The well-planned strategies for the counter attack was smart which bring this show to another level. Good that certain humour was injected to lighten this heavy-hearted show.

Though certain fighting and shooting scenes were rather nerve-wracking, it was amazingly injected as it was convincing. The digital effects was refreshing and nicely done though some appeared quite vague to me.

The trailer may not look appealing but trust me, this is a good film to catch if you enjoy watching an action-packed film.

Thanks Clover films (Kelvin) for the invitation to this special screening! (:

In the suburbs of Tokyo sometime ago, there lived a clumsy boy about 10 years old. There appeared in front of him a boy named Sewashi, Nobita’s descendant of four generations later from the 22ndcentury,and Doraemon, a 22ndcentury cat-type caretaker robot who helps people with its secret gadgets. Sewashi claims that his family is suffering from the debts Nobita made even to his generation, so in order to change this disastrous future, he brought along Doraemon as Nobita’s caretaker to bring happiness to his future, although Doraemon is not happy about this. And so Sewashi installed an accomplishment program into Doraemon forcing him to take care of Nobita. Unless he makes Nobita happy, Doraemon can no longer go back to the 22ndcentury. This is how the life of Doraemon and Nobita begins. Will Doraemon succeed this mission and return to the 22ndcentury?

Watched Stand By Me Doraemon. Personally, I felt that the show was simple and classic on its own. It was decent though its plot could have been more refined. Initially, the story was pretty interesting with its light-hearted and fun-loving plot. However, it got rather dull watching on as there wasn't much surprise element injected.

It turn out rather predictable though I do agree that certain scenes were touching. It also educated viewers to be independent and not always to rely on others. Sometimes, you just need a little faith to trust and believe in yourself.

A film that is more suitable for kids and Doraemon lovers.

Visited NOM - Bistro & Bakery with Danny. The Oreo Rainbow cake tasted decent with a rather moist and light texture. However, the oreo cream tends to get kinda "jerlat" after a while with the sweetness I guess. The sponge cake itself was good though it tasted similar to some bakery shop. The appealing presentation reminded one to snap a picture of it as well.

Heard that their Beer Battered Fish &Chips is good! I shall try it next time.
